Where to manage automatic updates
- Log in to WP.one.
- Go to Sites at the top of the screen.
- Click on WP Admin to the far right of the corresponding domain.
- In your WP Admin, click WP.one in the menu to the left.
- Navigate to Updates in the WP.one plugin menu.
- That's it! You can now manage the automatic updates for your WordPress site.
Customising automatic updates
Automatic updates are enabled by default for each WP.one site for your convenience. This means that your website will be updated automatically without any manual intervention. This is done primarily to enhance security and ensure that your site can benefit from the latest improvements.
You can manage the settings of these automatic updates in the Updates tab of the WP.one plugin. Here, you have the flexibility to tailor the automatic update function according to your preferences. You can make the following adjustments:
-
Enable / Disable managed updates: While we generally recommend keeping automatic updates enabled for security reasons, you can choose to turn them off completely if you prefer to handle updates manually.
- Choose what to update: If there are specific plugins or themes you don't want to update automatically, you can skip them from the update list. This is handy when you want more control over certain components of your website.
Note: The automatic update excludes paid and custom plugins and themes that need manual updates via SFTP.
Managing update notifications
You can also control where update notifications are sent and whether you want to receive them. Here's how:
-
Customise notification email: Change the email address to which update notifications are sent. This helps ensure that the right person or team receives the update alerts.
- Turn off notifications (discouraged): If you'd rather not receive update notifications via email, you can choose to disable them entirely by unchecking the box. Keep in mind that staying informed about updates is important for maintaining your website's security.
Visual testing for updates
To ensure that automatic updates won't cause issues on your website, we recommend allowing visual testing. In visual testing, we compare your website's appearance before and after an update to make sure it has not caused any visual changes on your website. Visual testing of updates is especially important for websites with dynamic content, such as videos, animations, or image carousels. However, you can also disable this feature if necessary:
- Deactivate visual testing: You can click the box in the Updates tab to turn off visual testing for updates. This can be useful for websites with moving images, as it reduces the testing load when updating.
Save changes
Remember to save any changes you make by clicking the Save Changes button at the bottom of the Updates tab. This ensures that your preferences are applied and your settings are updated accordingly.
By following these steps, you can effectively manage WordPress updates and tailor them to your website's specific needs.
